Methodology & sources

TermBreaks is a planning reference, not an official government site. We normalize published calendars into structured tables you can scan quickly.

How we work

  1. Find the official ministry or education-authority calendar.
  2. Extract term and holiday date ranges for the school system in scope.
  3. Normalize into our schema (country, optional region, year, periods) with source URLs.
  4. Validate date order and regenerate static pages.
  5. Record a last-verified date on each published year.

Singapore

Covers MOE Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary term dates and scheduled one-day school holidays (Teachers' Day, Youth Day, Children's Day, and designated days off-in-lieu), plus gazetted Singapore public holidays from the Ministry of Manpower (including Monday observed days when a holiday falls on Sunday). Junior College and Millennia Institute calendars can differ and are called out in notes where relevant.

Always confirm critical plans against moe.gov.sg/calendar.

Australia

Each state and territory publishes its own government school calendar. We publish those separately under /australia. NSW pages use Eastern division dates; Western division Term 1 / summer return dates differ by about a week and are noted on the NSW pages.

Catholic and independent schools often align with state dates but can vary — confirm with your school.

Canada

School calendars are set by provinces/territories and local school boards. We publish province and territory hubs under /canada. Ontario holiday weeks follow the Ministry of Education standard calendar; British Columbia and Alberta pages cite a large public board as the reference calendar, with notes that other boards can differ.

Always confirm first/last instructional days and PA days with your school board before booking travel.

United Kingdom

Term dates are set by each nation (and often by local authority or academy trust). We publish England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland under /united-kingdom. England pages use a typical local-authority pattern; Wales cites GOV.WALES Group A where published; Scotland and Northern Ireland cite council / Education Authority calendars, with notes that other areas can differ.

Academy, Catholic and independent calendars can differ — always confirm with your school before booking travel.

United States

School calendars are set by local districts (and charter schools), not a single nationwide schedule. We publish all 50 states and DC under /united-states. Larger states cite a major public district (for example LAUSD, NYC DOE, Houston ISD) as the reference calendar; others use a common traditional K–12 pattern with a state education source link, and note that local districts can differ.

Charter, private and magnet calendars can differ — always confirm with your school before booking travel.

Malaysia

Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM) publishes a national academic calendar with two groups. We publish all 13 states and 3 federal territories under /malaysia. Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu use Kumpulan A; all other states and federal territories use Kumpulan B (dates usually differ by about one day). 2026 dates follow the official Kalendar Akademik; 2027 mid-year and term-break weeks are provisional until KPM publishes the full takwim (the 4 January 2027 start is confirmed).

Private and international schools can differ — always confirm with your school before booking travel.

New Zealand

Covers Ministry of Education term and holiday dates for state schools, kura and state-integrated schools. Terms 2 and 3 are fixed nationwide; Term 1 start and Term 4 end have school choice windows, which we note on each year page.

Always confirm critical plans against education.govt.nz.

Ireland

Covers Department of Education and Youth standardised Christmas, Easter and mid-term breaks for recognised primary and post-primary schools. Summer holidays and the exact start of the school year are school-set; we show representative windows and note the difference. February mid-term dates use the post-primary full week, with primary Thursday–Friday closure explained in notes.

Always confirm critical plans against gov.ie school holiday dates and your school calendar.

Hong Kong

Local schools draw up calendars under Education Bureau guidelines (generally about 190 school days and 90 holiday days, observing public holidays). We publish a representative calendar under /hong-kong using the EDB example whole-day school calendar for major 2026/27 breaks, with common local-school patterns for 2025/26 windows. International and ESF schools often differ.

Always confirm critical plans against edb.gov.hk school calendar guidelines and your school calendar.

Philippines

Public basic education follows Department of Education (DepEd) school calendar orders. We publish a national calendar under /philippines. SY 2025–2026 follows DepEd Order No. 012, s. 2025; SY 2026–2027 follows DepEd Order No. 009, s. 2026 (three-term calendar: opens 8 June 2026, ends 8 April 2027). Later years are provisional until DepEd issues the annual memorandum. Private schools may differ.

Always confirm critical plans against deped.gov.ph and your school calendar — class suspensions for weather or local events can still shift dates.
