Compare school holiday dates

See the dates when two school calendars are on break at the same time. The comparison uses published term breaks for a country, state or territory.

Compare two school calendars

Families split across countries, and co-parents on different school calendars, need the days when both children are actually on break. TermBreaks lines up two published calendars for the same year and lists the dates that belong to both. Open a location first if you only need one calendar, or use a comparison page when you need the shared dates.

Browse every published calendar on the locations index. Sources and the last-checked date for each calendar are described on the methodology page.

How it works

  1. Choose two locations that have a published school calendar, and a year both calendars cover.
  2. The checker reads term breaks and special school-closure days from each calendar. Days that are only teaching terms, or public holidays that are not school closures, stay out of the comparison.
  3. Continuous closures inside each calendar are merged. A calendar day is shared when it sits inside a closure on both calendars, and it is counted once even if several named breaks touch that day.
  4. The comparison page lists those shared ranges and links back to each location's year calendar.

Example

Singapore vs Johor in 2027 uses the published calendars for Singapore and Johor, Malaysia. They share 42 school-holiday days across 4 ranges:

  • 20 Mar 2027 (Sat) – 21 Mar 2027 (Sun) (2 days) — March Holiday and Term 1 Holidays
  • 29 May 2027 (Sat) – 6 Jun 2027 (Sun) (9 days) — June Holiday and Mid-year Holidays
  • 3 Sept 2027 (Fri) – 5 Sept 2027 (Sun) (3 days) — Teachers' Day and Term 2 Holidays
  • 4 Dec 2027 (Sat) – 31 Dec 2027 (Fri) (28 days) — Year-end Holiday and Year-end Holidays

Questions about overlap

What does the school holiday overlap checker compare?

It compares two published TermBreaks school calendars for one year. Each calendar is a country, or a state, province or territory where school dates are set regionally. The result is the set of dates when both places are on a school break at the same time.

How are overlapping school-holiday days calculated?

Term breaks and special school-closure days are taken from each published calendar. Teaching-term dates, and public holidays that are not school closures, are left out. Continuous closures inside each calendar are merged, then each calendar day that falls inside both calendars is counted once.

Do I need the picker to see a comparison?

No. Each published pair has its own page listing the shared dates. You can open a comparison from the links on this page, or start from a location calendar and compare it with another place. The picker only fills in that page for you.

Where do the holiday dates come from?

Dates come from the official education-authority calendars recorded for each location. The methodology page describes how those sources are checked and normalized before a year is published.
